Hadlow Down is sustained by a substantial culture of unpaid community effort. An interim audit undertaken by HDCC has identified at least 9,291.5 volunteer hours each year across community activities, stewardship of shared facilities, the development of the new Community Centre, church life, school/PTA activity and other regular village events.
Of this total, 6,817 hours a year are directly connected with the Village Hall, Playing Field, community activities using those facilities, or the voluntary work required to develop and secure the proposed new Community Centre. That is approximately 131 volunteer hours every week.
A further 2,474.5 hours have so far been identified in the wider village volunteering ecosystem, including the village magazine. These hours are deliberately shown separately: they demonstrate the breadth of Hadlow Down’s voluntary culture without implying that every activity depends on the proposed Community Centre.
